The list of online operators in Ontario will soon get bigger as Betway prepares to launch. In April of this year, the company received its license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, but it did not have the necessary documentation to begin work. Everything is in order for the August 1, 2022, launch.
The first of its kind in Canada, Ontario is the first jurisdiction to introduce an online gaming model for private operators. The introduction of the market on April 4, 2022, eliminated the grey market operations in the province, after years of preparation and several delays.
The date needs to be saved
After several months of waiting, Betway has finally acquired its operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, which is a subsidiary of the AGCO, and both oversee the market. After they log in for the first time on August 1, 2022, players who already have accounts are advised to migrate their accounts because the company previously operated in the grey market in the province.
Betway will still be able to operate in other provinces, but it will be as a grey-market brand now that it has been licensed to operate in Ontario. The company will continue to be accessible to other provinces at betway.com and will be able to offer its products under the Malta Gaming Authority license.
A broad range of sports betting, casino, and live casino will be offered by the operator in Ontario. The platform is owned by Super Group, which is the largest operator in Canada, and it operates in the offshore i gaming sector via Betway and Spin. According to H2 Gambling Capital, the company generated 28% of the total market share in 2011.
Immense online entertainment
With the new online gaming market, Ontarian gambling fans have plenty of options when it comes to wagering as many big-name operators have joined the province. The sportsbook launched its Presidential Election wagering recently, and is one of those. As Donald Trump leads the charts, the operators have released their odds for the campaign.
DraftKings was one of the few gaming brands that was approved by the AGCO for its promotional materials. The company was fined CA$100,000 for violating the province’s standards for internet gaming with its promoted boosted odds for hockey matches during the NHL playoffs.
James Chisholm, the company’s Senior Director of Corporate Affairs, said in a statement that the gaming leader is committed to playing by the rules in every jurisdiction it operates. He said that the company pulled the rules-breaching ads out of circulation after being reprimanded by the regulators.
