Metro Police have said that the man suspected of killing Marcos Rocha in the early hours of December 3 was traced through his player rewards card.
Joshua Billings was arrested last Thursday and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on an open murder charge.
Metro Police were called to the alley of 1300 Sombrero Drive on December 3, near the intersection of South Maryland Parkway and East Desert Inn Road. Rocha was found slumped near a dumpster with an apparent stab wound. The person was not responsive. There were bags with groceries that were spilled around his body. His wallet and cell phone were nowhere to be found.
According to the arrest report, police noticed bloody footprints and droplets of blood leading away from the scene.
The trail of blood leads from one place to another
A person of interest was quickly identified by investigators after they collected footage from three different locations.
Shortly after midnight, this individual was seen crossing paths with Rocha near the Desert Inn and Maryland Parkway intersection. The figure is next seen following Rocha as he walks through the Sunrise Hospital parking lot towards the area where the murder took place.
The figure was identified by his player card information.
When investigators tracked down the address that did not match the one on his records, they found droplets of blood leading to the front door, which matched the ones found at the murder scene.
The individual seen in the video was wearing a hat similar to the one Billings was wearing. He had blood on the brim of his hat and a cut on his finger.
Murders are committed by the Denies
According to his arrest report, he agreed to be taken to Metro Police headquarters to be interviewed. He confirmed that he was the person in the images when he admitted he was in the area at the time. He did not deny that he stabbed anyone. He admitted to investigators that he was drunk that night.
The victim’s mother told 8 NewsNow last week that her son was a good kid who helped everyone.
She said that she was struggling to understand why anyone would want to hurt him, adding that he was always trying to get everyone to start dancing.
The bail hearing is scheduled for December 20.
