Wynn Senior is moving to the United States for an Integrated Resort

After eight years of climbing up the corporate ladder in Wynn’s subsidiary in Macau, Derek Sands will be taking on the role of executive vice president for the upcoming integrated resort in Ras Al Khaimah.

The president of the Asia market is moving to the United Arab Emirates

One of the first positions to be filled by Wynn Resorts was that of executive vice president of the Ras Al Khaimah property, which has been taken over by Derek Sands. He was the president of the Asian division since the beginning of the year, according to his profile on LinkedIn. He has been climbing the ladder ever since he started as a building services director in Macau, in Wynn’s Design & Development subsidiary arm.

At first glance, the move makes sense, as Wynn Design & Development serves as the company’s creative hub, dealing with project management, interior design and more. Being someone who is already high within the company and with the proper experience makes Sands a prime candidate for heading the upcoming collaboration between the parent company and local Ras Al Khaimah businesses.

The Integrated Resort is going to be breakthrough

That is a big project that is located on the man-made Al Marjan Island. Wynn will be teaming up with a group that operates hotels and other leisurely businesses to create jobs in the area, as part of the multi billion dollar integrated resort.

The integrated resort will have more than 1,000 hotel rooms, a wellness center, various restaurants, a shopping, and, of course, a “gaming area,” as well as some spectacular views of the Arabian Gulf. This is Wynn’s first beach resort, and the presence of a “gaming area” reveals nothing about how a possible casino may merge with Islamic gambling beliefs. There are precious few details about this, which has been known since January.

When it was announced, this was the biggest project within the hospitality sector of the U.S., as there are no names that offer legal gambling in the U.S., as gambling is not only widely frowned upon, but also downright illegal. A new division has been created by the RaKTDA, which is focused on regulating IRs in the emirate. It is expected that Wynn’s establishment in the capital city of Ras Al Khaimah will be completed by the year 2026.

According to reports on the matter, the new Department of Entertainment and Gaming Regulation will be tasked with regulation, taxation, and gambling safety, under its jurisdiction, and will concentrate on the regulation of the potentially expanding gaming environment.

Although this might be opening up new doors for the gaming industry, the cultural boundaries might still prove to be a big obstacle, as Dubai had completely refused legal gambling, regardless of the proximity of Wynn’s integrated resorts in the neighboring emirate. Maybe it will be sitting out this first round and wait and see how the new business develops inside its neighboring emirate, or maybe it will skip the trend entirely, or at least try to. Time will tell what concrete is and nothing is concrete.

Summary:

The Executive Vice President of Wynn’s upcoming integrated resort in the United Arab Emirates has been appointed by the company. He was the President of the Asian division since the beginning of the year, according to his profile on LinkedIn. There was a building services director named Sands in Macau.
